The Narragansett Times: Council candidates turn out for second SK forum

By KENDRA GRAVELLE | Oct 20, 2018

SOUTH KINGSTOWN — Beneath dim lighting, a crowd gathered Wednesday during Ocean Mist's second ever meet-the-candidates night. Reminiscent of the days when the local pub was the hub for discourse in town, the event allowed town council candidates the chance to mingle with other residents before participating in a laid back question-and-answer session.

“This is a great spot to come and get to know your current elected leaders and your maybe-elected leaders,” said Kate Coyne-McCoy, a member of Protect Matunuck and organizer of Wednesday's forum.

“Civic engagement is a great thing,” she continued.

The event was relaxed and the atmosphere, friendly. Community members sat at tables and around the bar, beers resting before them, as they chatted and listened to the candidates' responses to their questions.

“What better way to put a face to a topic,” Kevin Finnegan, owner of Ocean Mist, said as the forum kicked off.
