Barbara Freitas is the director of the Rhode Island Homeless Advocacy Project. Eric Hirsch is a professor of sociology at Providence College. Both are longtime activists working to end homelessness in Rhode Island.
Why are so many people living outside in Rhode Island right now? The count as of June 19 from outreach workers for the Rhode Island Homeless Advocacy Project shows 408 people living in “places not meant for human habitation” over the previous 30 days, including in cars, tents, and under overpasses and bridges.
