ProJo: Crossroads RI gets $5-million grant from Bezos family fund

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Crossroads Rhode Island will receive a $5-million grant from the Day 1 Families Fund created by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife, MacKenzie.

Crossroads president and CEO Karen Santilli says the money will be used to assist homeless families in the state.

“Our goal with these funds, and our other private funds and federal and state funds, is that we can end homelessness for families in Rhode Island,” she said.

“People will always come into homelessness,” she said, “but if we do this right, they will be homeless for a very brief period of time and get out of homelessness as quickly as possible.”

The Day 1 Families Fund is donating $97.5 million to 24 nonprofits across the country that focus on family homelessness.
