ProJo: Community activists set up mobile shower unit to help the homeless

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — It's easy to take a hot shower for granted.
Unless your water heater busts.
Or your plumbing doesn't work.
Or you live on the streets.
Shower to Empower set up shop this week on Central Street on the city's South Side, bringing a trailer with two private stalls for the use of people who are homeless.
“We wanted to be very purposeful in where we parked,” said Laura Jaworski, executive director of House of Hope Community Development Corporation, which runs the operation. “We know that the South Side is an area experiencing high levels of people experiencing street homelessness.”
The trailer, with a reserved parking spot near 59 Central St., right behind the Broad Street McDonald's restaurant, offers the right levels of visibility and accessibility, Jaworski said Friday.
