ProJo: City gives West End tent encampment a reprieve, Elorza vows a `compassionate' approach

PROVIDENCE — The city has given a reprieve to the tent encampment at 72 Wilson St. in the West End as leaders search for housing options for the 15 or so residents who are making the vacant lot their home.

“We're not going to put them out on the street because this is just going to push them out on the streets,” Mayor Jorge Elorza said to reporters Friday, the day the city had originally ordered the residents to clear the site or face civil and criminal prosecution.
