PROVIDENCE — Dozens of faith and social action leaders gathered in the State House library Tuesday afternoon to call for legislators to pass protections for those with lawful, non-employment income such as Section 8 housing vouchers.

“For me, my faith without action is zero,” said Rep. Anastasia Williams, D-Providence, during an impassioned speech to the Rhode Island Interfaith Coalition to Reduce Poverty. “It is an unjust situation that is happening now.

“What is being done to us,” Williams, whose district includes parts of Providence's West End and South Side, continued, “is what we are allowing them to do to us.”
