ProJo: 2 Providence projects to increase affordable housing

PROVIDENCE — A local community development corporation announced Thursday that it will receive $15.5 million from various state and city sources to build two new mixed-use buildings and preserve an existing apartment complex.

The two new buildings will be built on a vacant lot at 1043 and 1045 Broad St., land previously owned by the Providence Redevelopment Agency, a city agency that works to spur development of vacant properties.

Between them, the two buildings will include eight affordable apartments, commercial spaces and a community room, according to a news release from the organization Stop Wasting Abandoned Property, or SWAP, which is developing the project.
