Newport Daily News: Amicable hosting annual homeless awareness sleepover event, food drive

TIVERTON — Amicable Church will be hosting its 20th homelessness awareness sleepover on its front lawn, 3736 Main Road, on Saturday, Feb. 2, in conjunction with local food drive efforts, and organizers are asking for donations to support the participants.

The church's youth group and their chaperones will spend the night outdoors, as the front lawn becomes a “box city,” with the youth setting up boxes as temporary shelter. The kids are seeking sponsors for the night, with the funds going to First Step Inn, a homeless shelter in Fall River.

Donations can be sent to Amicable Church, 3736 Main Road, Tiverton, RI 02878, with checks made out to First Step Inn.
