Organization Description:
Grow Smart RI is a public interest nonprofit group that has assembled a broad
coalition of business and civic leaders and concerned citizens to provide an
effective statewide voice in support of sustainable and equitable economic growth
and an outstanding quality of place. We have a 22-year history of convening
broad coalitions that promote best practice tools and policy reforms that help
build communities where all people and businesses can thrive. Among the ways
we pursue this broad community-strengthening objective are by advocating for
enhanced incentives and investments for urban and town center revitalization, as
well as by promoting responsible public investment in a 21st century
transportation system, together with land use strategies that enhance our
economy, and protect our farm and forest land.
Main Project Description:
Grow Smart RI recently launched an initiative to expand the capacity of RI transit
users to advocate for an efficient, accessible, and equitable public transportation
system in the state. Part of the initiative involves training community members in
advocacy strategies and community organizing. The 2021 summer intern will
conduct research on effective advocacy methods and advocacy training, with a
focus on transit advocacy where possible. The intern will identify best practices
and compile reference materials, and will assist staff in the development an
advocacy training curriculum and advocacy guide.
Additional Project Assistance:
Grow Smart RI has been tracking its online media coverage and seeks assistance
in cataloguing and organizing links to this coverage on its website such that
stakeholders may search by topic for relevant material.
Qualifications:
Ideal candidate will be experienced in policy research and will demonstrate
strong writing and analytical skills. Flexibility, a collaborative approach, attention
to detail, and basic computer skills are required. Must be highly organized, and
