New study looks at transportation access and housing choice

A report titled "Driving to Opportunity: Understanding the Links among Transportation Access, Residential Outcomes, and Economic Opportunity for Housing Voucher Recipients finds that access to cars has a positive impact on housing location choice and employment options for housing voucher recipients. This study was published last month by the Urban Institute in collaboration with researchers from the University of Maryland and UCLA.

Nearly 300 real estate and community development professionals from across the globe gathered in Seattle for the event, which explored a range of housing issues.

East Main Road safety drives Town Center plan

PORTSMOUTH — The state supports efforts for safety improvements to the “Town Center’ section of East Main Road, but for now at least there is no money to pay for it."

That message was delivered to the Town Council on Monday, May 3, by Bob Smith, head of the state Department of Transportation’s road design section. He said the state simply has no funds at the moment to pay the estimated $10 million to $15 million cost of the project, although that may change in the future.
