RI development named national finalist - vote now!

A Rhode Island development has been named a finalist in Affordable Housing Finance (AHF) magazine's 8th Annual Readers' Choice Awards in the Special-Needs category.

OpenDoors Housing LLC, located in Providence, is a rehabilitated historic building designed to provide 19 permanent supportive homes for ex-offenders who are at risk of becoming homeless upon leaving prison.

Advocates celebrate passage of Homeless Bill of Rights

Homeless advocates gathered at the State House on Wednesday to celebrate the signing of the Homeless Bill of Rights, the first of its kind in the nation. Governor Chafee signed the bill into law last week affirming equal access to services and opportunities regardless of whether an individual has a permanent address. It makes explicit that no persons face discrimination because they are homeless and outlines specific protections against such inequities.

Celebration for passage of Homeless Bill of Rights

On Wednesday, June 27th at 1:30 p.m., join the Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless for an event celebrating the passage of Rhode Island's Homeless Bill of Rights.

Budget passes, housing bond moves forward

The Rhode Island Senate earlier this week passed the $8.1 billion FY2013 state budget by a vote margin of 30 to 7.

This budget bill, also passed by the full House, included a $25 million housing bond referendum for the creation of long-term affordable homes proposed by Governor Lincoln D. Chafee.
