The Valley Breeze: NeighborWorks wins $200K in AmeriCorps funding

WOONSOCKET – NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley will receive $199,715 through Serve Rhode Island to support 20 AmeriCorps members who will provide housing assistance to economically disadvantaged renter households, many of whom are at-risk for homelessness, and transition them into safe, healthy, affordable housing.

PBN: Reed announces nearly $500K in federal funding to encourage independent living in R.I.

PROVIDENCE – In an effort to ensure elderly and disabled residents receive health care, meals, transportation and other essential support services, U.S. Sen. Jack F. Reed recently announced $479,745 in federal funding will be disseminated in contract renewals for service coordinators in several Rhode Island communities. Administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Service Coordinator Program provides funding to employ service coordinators in assisted multifamily housing developments who connect residents to existing locally based programs and services.

These annual data points offer a sneak preview to an even more in-depth affordability analysis of 2012 data that HousingWorks RI will offer in the 2013 Housing Fact Book. The 2013 Housing Fact Book will be released Friday, September 27th.

Groundbreaking in Woonsocket

On Tuesday, August 21st, join United States Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley, Rhode Island Housing and their community partners to break ground on the construction of affordable rental homes.

This new development, known as Burnside Apartments, will provide nine new homes with supportive services coordinated by Family Resources Community Action.

The speaking program begins at 10:30 a.m. and light refreshments will be provided.
